Break Free from Diet Ruts and Realize Weight Loss Success
Anyone who has tried repeatedly, or even continuously, to lose weight, will be more than a little aware that the
process of losing weight can result in a very discouraging feeling of lack of success. If this is the case for you,
the way that you need to approach your weight loss goals is to stop dieting and start eating. Indeed, it may sound
perfectly strange, but dieting has been proven to be ineffective for most people. Dieting is a cycle of losing
weight and, once one has met their weight-loss goal, a period of weight gain, during which one might even surpass
the previous weight from which they were trying to lose weight.
The key to getting in a good diet cycle is to not actually diet. Instead of dieting, you should modify your eating
habits and modify your activity level on a daily basis. Incorporating more exercise into one’s daily routine will
result in weight loss in a more natural and a healthier way than will binge dieting. Getting started on weight loss
is, therefore, a question of making permanent habits instead of making drastic short-term changes. The key to
making this work is to stick with it for the long run.
Persevering
The key to being able to persevere in one’s diet modifications is the ability to know when a craving should be
indulged to a certain extent and when the craving should be suppressed. Suppressing cravings all of the time means
that you will begin to feel deprived, which is what ultimately leads to bingeing on the food that you have been
steering clear of. Steering clear of foods 100% can intensify your cravings for it instead of making the craving go
away.
Getting Out
The cycle of dieting and not dieting is made to be broken and not to be lived in. It’s a known fact that the more
extreme the diet, the more likely one is to bounce back to their previous eating habits as soon as one finishes the
so-called diet. Once the diet is over, normal eating habits re-surface and the cycle of weight going up and down is
back in session. This is when it is important to realize that this type of cycle is the last place that one wants
to be stuck—instead, modify your eating and exercise habits in order to never have to go on a diet again.
Healthy Lifestyle
Diets are usually too extreme to be healthy for year-round, year after year use. It is not healthy to have an
extremely limited diet year after year. Not only is your body running on not enough fuel, you might be compromising
your immune response by not getting enough vitamins. You might also be feeling overtired, cranky and stressed. All
of these things are quite normal in the company of extreme dieters because eating too few calories is a good way to
get overtired and keep your body under stress. When the diet is over and normal eating resumes, the onslaught of
calories then puts undue stress on the body.
The only way to get a healthy lifestyle under your belt is to break the cycle of dieting and start eating healthily
and exercising regularly. A healthy lifestyle is made up of 30 minutes of moderate to difficult activity. A healthy
diet is made up of a variety of foods, rich in vegetables and high in fruits. No more than 60 grams of fat should
be eaten a day, none of which should be trans fats. Sugars should be limited and a fair amount of your grains
should be whole grains. Controlling the amounts by learning about portion sizes is the only way to have a healthy
diet that is neither deficient nor overly heavy in a certain food group. Following these recommendations will mean
never having to diet again.
