Focus on Life's Fear Factors as a Motivation Tool for Good Health
There are so many people these days that struggle with their weight. Most of these people do not feel comfortable
with the added pounds they are carrying around and they want to shed the excess weight. Dieting is difficult and
getting the right amount of exercise is just as hard for many people. Not only does carrying excess weight make you
have lower self-esteem, but it is also unhealthy. Studies have proven time and time again that carrying added
weight increases your risk for diseases such as diabetes and heart disease, high blood pressure and high
cholesterol. The lesson here is that when you want to shed the unwanted pounds, you should focus on the fact that
you are doing it for your health, and not for your looks.
Shedding weight because of diabetes: If you are carrying more than 30 pounds of added weight, you are
significantly increasing your risk for developing adult onset diabetes. Adult onset diabetes is almost always
related to the fact that a person is overweight. Having diabetes can often be controlled through proper diet and
exercise. That means cutting out the unnecessary carbohydrates and sugar from your diet. It will also mean that you
will need close monitoring from your doctor or health care provider. If you do develop full-blown case of diabetes,
you may also be required to take daily injections of insulin. This is certainly not the way to live a healthy life.
If you are carrying added weight, you should be concerned about developing diabetes. This is the number one reason
why you should watch your weight for your health.
Watching your weight for your heart: So many people that are overweight develop significant problems with
their heart. Not only does carrying added weight make it difficult for you to exercise, but it also puts you at
risk for having a heart attack. The best way to make sure that you are keeping your heart healthy is to maintain a
regular program of exercise. This does not mean that you need to take part in strenuous physical activity every
day. Instead, try walking, low impact aerobics and swimming, which are terrific ways to keep your heart in shape
when you are watching your weight. In addition, if you are concerned about your heart, then you also need to be
watching the kinds of foods that you eat. You should be getting the proper amounts of fruits and vegetables and
lower the amount of fat you getting your diet each day.
Weight and cholesterol: Most people that struggle with their weight also struggle with having high
cholesterol levels. This is dangerous and can directly affect the way you live. It is sometimes very hard to
control these levels unless you change your diet and exercise. In order to cut your cholesterol levels, you should
have a healthy diet that is low in fat and sodium. If your cholesterol levels are too high, your doctor may want to
put you on the medication that will help control your cholesterol. Instead of relying on medication, think about
ways that you can change your eating habits for your health.
As you can see, if you find that you are a few pounds overweight, it is always best to focus on the health benefits
of losing weight rather than your outward appearance. When you look out for your health, you will find that you
will stay more motivated to shed the excess weight. To get started, see your doctor. With a few blood tests, he or
she can tell you what areas you need to focus most on in order to get your body healthy.
