Before You Start – Identifying Your Weak Spots for a Successful Fitness Program
If you think about following a diet program, what first comes to mind? Do you envision yourself eating only salads
for every meal for the next six months? Maybe you think about the fact that you will feel denied of your favorite
foods? Perhaps you even think about spending hours and hours in the gym, when you would rather be doing other
things. It is extremely difficult to lose weight for most people. Because of this, most diet professionals
recommend that before you start any weight-loss routine, you take a hard look at your lifestyle and identify your
weak spots. Why should you identify your weak spots before you begin a fitness program? Doing this will help you
pinpoint exactly where you need the most help.
If you are starting a fitness routine, it may be difficult for you to get started. Many people feel that they do
not have enough time to exercise. This is probably the number one excuse for not exercising and it is a weak spot
for most people. If you feel that you do not have enough time to exercise, then you need to figure out why this is.
Is it truly because you are busy or is it just because you do not want to make the time to work out? These are all
things to consider when you begin a fitness routine. If you feel that you do not have enough time to work out, then
you need to carve out even just 20 minutes a day when you can take a brisk walk around your office building or your
neighborhood. Even exercise in short time frames can add a big in the end.
Another weak spot for most people is that they say that they feel silly going to the gym. If you are out of shape,
then you may feel embarrassed or self-conscious about your body if you plan to join the gym. This feeling of
embarrassment can be a weak spot for many people who want to start an exercise routine. What you must remember is
that every body feels this way when they go to the gym. You don't have to look like a muscle man to work out at
your local gym.
If you feel too embarrassed to work out a gym, then perhaps you should
consider finding another alternative for your workout routine, such as walking or swimming or even using an
exercise video in your home. You might even hire a personal trainer for awhile. Don't let your feelings of
embarrassment make you a couch potato. The important thing here is that you need to exercise whether that means
that you walk with friends in the evening or if you do hit the gym. You need to get moving. You will not have a
successful fitness program if you do not exercise.
Having young children is yet another weak spots for many women who want to start a fitness program. This is
especially true for stay-at-home moms with babies and toddlers. It is often hard to bundle up your baby and
exercise every day. Some gyms do have childcare programs, so you might want to check out this possibility. If you
feel uncomfortable about leaving your child with a stranger so that you can work out, then make sure you hand over
the tot to dad when he gets home from work. You need your time, too! Another possibility is to join a moms group.
Many of these groups meet at local malls or in parks on a regular basis and walk with the strollers for company and
exercise.
