Writing a Mission Statement and Contract to Realize your Weight Loss Goals
When you decide that you want to become serious about reaching your ideal weight through a diet and exercise
programs, you need to have a clear idea of what you expect out of yourself. Many diet experts recommend writing a
mission statement. It is true that mission statements are not strictly just for businesses. You can write your own
mission statement to help you to find your weight loss goals and to have something that will remind you what you
are working towards. It is never easy to lose weight. However, when you have your very own mission statement, you
will have a visual reminder of what you are working towards and your final goals. Here are some tips for making a
mission statement worthwhile.
Before you begin your mission statement gravities of paper and a pen and jot down some ideas of what you are
working towards make these ideas specific such as, “I want to lose 10 pounds in the next three months,” or “I want
to live a healthier lifestyle with my diet program.” Write down everything that you think of when you begin to
brainstorm these ideas. This will help you to think through your mission statement before writing it. What do you
expect out of yourself? How much weight do you want to lose? What type of diet and exercise program do you think
that you can stick to? These are all things to consider when you are brainstorming ideas for your mission
statement. This is the first step of writing a successful weight loss mission statement and will help you stick to
your goals.
The next thing that you will want to do is to write down ideas for your weight loss and exercise program. These may
be ideas that you have for the types of foods that you should cut out of your current diet and the types of foods
that you should add into your diet program. For example, one of your goals may be to cut out chocolate and other
sugary foods. Make sure that you put that on your mission statement when you are brainstorming ideas. You may also
want to include ideas such as cutting out high sugar beverages and drinking more water each day.
Don't forget to look at your exercise routine as well. If you do not currently exercise, then you will certainly
want to add that into your mission statement. When begin an exercise program, you will want to think about the
types of exercises that you believe that you can stick to. Perhaps it is going to the gym for yoga or Pilates
class. Perhaps it is swimming laps in your pool or walking three or four days a week in your neighborhood with
friends. These are specific ideas and goals that you will want to include in your mission statement.
In addition, when you write a mission statement, you want to have a specific time frame in mind. It is unrealistic
to simply state that you will lose 50 pounds in three months. Realistic goals are best for your mission statement
and often times, breaking down your weight loss goals in smaller steps work better. For example, you may want to
say that your goal is to lose five pounds each month for the next six months. Breaking down your diet and exercise
program in small steps is more doable than having a broad general time frame.
When you have specific ideas in mind for your weight-loss routine and write it down in a mission statement. You
will be better prepared to stick to your diet and reach your ideal weight goals.
