Mind Over Mississippi Mud Cake: How to Stay Focused in the Face of
Temptation
Dieting is not always an easy thing to do. Any person who is trying to stick to any type of diet will tell you that
it takes time, patience and lots of self-discipline. In addition, it is often hard to resist the temptation of your
favorite foods when they are right in front of you. This can be an especially hard thing to do when you are with
company or friends or other social settings or around the holidays. So how do you resist the temptations of your
favorite sweets and desserts while you are trying to watch your weight? Here are some tips on how to stay focused
in the face of temptation and to keep yourself motivated when you diet.
Don’t Deny Yourself: Most dieting experts will tell you that you should never deny yourself your favorite
treats. This, however, does not mean that you can have your favorite cookies and pies and cakes whenever you feel
like it. Instead it means that you should be able to eat some of your favorite foods in small portions and
occasionally while you're dieting. If you deny yourself your favorite foods while you are battling your weight,
this will only make you want the food more. In order to avoid this, have a few bites of your favorite cookie or a
couple bites of your favorite pie and push it away. This will help you feel satisfied and feel as though you have
not denied yourself.
Tape a picture of yourself to the fridge: This may sound like a funny way to motivate yourself to stick to
your diet, but many dieters will tell you that it actually works. Find a picture of yourself that is unflattering
or of when you are at your highest weight and tape it to the front of your refrigerator. You can also find a
picture of yourself at your lowest weight and tape it on the refrigerator as well. This will help you visualize
your body and the way that you want to look every time you open up the refrigerator to get something to eat. You
will be reminded of your goals for your weight loss. This can be an extremely efficient way for you to stay
motivated in the toughest of times while you are trying to drop pounds.
Tell yourself you do not like high fat foods: When you tell yourself that you do not like a particular
high-fat food, you will begin to believe this after a while. For example, if you love chocolate chip cookies, find
something about the cookie that you do not like. For example, maybe it can be the greasy way that makes your finger
feel when you hold the cookie, or it could be that you don’t like cookies unless they are fresh out of the oven.
After awhile, you will begin to understand that your favorite foods may not be what you use to think. You may stop
eating those foods altogether.
Eat with a fellow dieter: If you have a friend or family member that is also dieting, you can stay motivated
by eating meals with a fellow dieter. This will help you stay focused on your diet because you will be held
accountable for what you eat every time you put something into your mouth. Your friend or spouse will be there to
see exactly how much you are eating. This is often the best way to lose weight. This is the same reason why many
weight-loss programs that require you to attend meetings work so well. It may be consider peer pressure, but when
you are dieting, that is often the best way to shed the pounds.
