Playing Diet Detective: Find Those Diet Saboteurs and Lose Weight
Losing weight is ever so hard for most people. This is true if the person is trying to lose only ten pounds, or if
they are trying to lose fifty pounds. Nobody wants to restrict the types of foods they eat or feel they are missing
out on all of their favorites at meal time. In addition, most people feel they do not have the time or the energy
to stick to a strenuous exercise routine each and every day.
However it is important to remember that if you truly want to lose weight, you need to find a weight loss plan and
exercise routine that you can stick to. You also need to realize the things that can sabotage your diet and what
you can do to avoid those situations. The following is a list of common things that will sabotage your diet quicker
than anything.
Friends and Family: Of course you love your best friends and your family members. They are all an important
part of your life. However, the same friends and family members are the ones that can sabotage your diet quicker
than just about anything else. Even though your spouse or your best friend may know that you are trying to lose
weight, they will try to convince you that you can have just one piece of birth cake or just one beer during a
football game.
Social situations such as going out to eat with the girls will also sabotage your diet. While you should never
avoid your friends and family while you diet, you should make your goals clear to those closest to you. Enjoy your
girl’s night out, but just order a salad. Enjoy a beer during the football game, but leave it at that one beer and
make it a light. Your friends and family members are well meaning, but that they can often cause your diet to
derail.
The Holidays: Just about every dieter will tell you that the holidays are absolutely the worst time of the
year to diet. The problem is that there are holidays all year long, and you simply can't go into hiding from
October to January. What do you do? You do your best to stick to your diet as hard as it may seem. If you are going
to a holiday party, make sure you eat a healthy meal before you go and stay away from the appetizers and hors
d'oeuvres table. Circulate and talk to those around you and this will help you avoid the food.
In addition, if it is hard for you to say no to a glass of wine, go ahead and enjoy one glass, but then get a diet
soda or a glass of water to carry around with you for the rest of the evening. If you are worried about what
grandma will think if you don't eat her super deluxe creamed casserole at Thanksgiving, get a small spoonful, and
don't go back for seconds. Be aware that dieting during the holidays will be very difficult, but make up your mind
to stick to your diet while still enjoying yourself.
Eating on the run: Everyone is very busy these days. It is hard no to be with work and the kids busy
schedules. It is hard to find time to make a healthy meal much less sitting down at the table to enjoy it. Most
Americans eat on the run and that often means going to drive through on a regular basis. If this sounds like you,
you need to make a concerted effort to avoid the drive through or at least learn what you can and cannot eat when
you are on the run. Make time on the weekends to cook several healthy meals that you can freeze and eat when you so
busy. This will not only help you save money, but it will also help you stick to your diet.
